Mark Briers is VP of Research Alliances for AI & Robotics at EIT. In this role, he leads our research partnerships and ensures alignment across the AI & Robotics research ecosystem, bridging internal teams, academia, and industry to maximise research impact and accelerate real-world application.
Before joining EIT, Mark held a technology-focussed executive leadership position at Royal Mail, and led AI transformation across BT, driving societal benefit through the deployment of AI solutions at scale. He served as the Lead Scientist on the NHS COVID-19 app, which prevented around 1 million cases of COVID-19, 44,000 hospitalisations and 9,600 deaths, during its first year. Previously, Mark was Programme Director for a large multi-disciplinary programme of academic research at The Alan Turing Institute.
Mark was awarded a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2007, where he published novel contributions in the area of Bayesian statistics and Sequential Monte Carlo methodology. In 2019, Mark was awarded a Professorship at the intersection of AI and cyber security from Cranfield University. Mark has held an honorary academic position at Imperial College London for over a decade, where he taught MSc modules and co-supervised PhD students. Mark has also served on the Council at the Royal Statistical Society.
Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his partner, children and dog, exercising at the gym, reading and coding.
