Global President of EIT, Professor Santa Ono
Santa Ono Joins the Ellison Institute of Technology as EIT Global President
Santa Ono has been appointed to the role of President of EIT Global. Ono has a long and distinguished record of academic leadership having led both the University of British Columbia and the University of Michigan as President. He moved into academic leadership from a distinguished career in biomedical research and immunology. A key part of President Ono’s responsibilities will include working with Sir John Bell, the President of EIT Oxford, in developing and expanding the science programs at EIT’s Oxford Campus.
Ellison Institute of Technology endeavours to develop and deploy commercially sustainable solutions to solve some of humanity’s most enduring challenges. EIT’s scientific research and development programs are focused in four primary areas: Health, Medical Science and Generative Biology, Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture, Clean Energy Generation and Storage, and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
Sir John described this new appointment:
“Santa and I have known each other for more than 20 years and I am a great admirer of his leadership abilities at major Universities. It will be a real pleasure to work side by side with him to deliver the vision Larry has for the Institute in Oxford. If we are successful, this could be one of the most impactful Institutes in recent years.”
Santa Ono said:
“I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the President of EIT Global. I look forward to collaborating with EIT’s leadership teams worldwide to advance Larry Ellison’s bold vision. I believe this innovative approach represents the most exciting investment in fundamental and applied research globally, and I am thrilled to be part of this collective effort to create solutions to humanity’s most pressing challenges.”
“I’d like to welcome Professor Santa Ono to the EIT team,” said Larry Ellison. “President Ono’s distinguished scientific background plus his extensive operational experience running the University of Michigan has prepared him to be an exceptional leader for the Institute. I am grateful that he has decided to join us. President Ono will collaborate with Sir John Bell in further developing and expanding EIT Oxford’s science programs. In addition, President Ono will be responsible for all EIT operations globally and Lisa Flashner, EIT’s Chief Operating Officer, will report directly to President Ono. Lisa will continue to directly run all EIT operating units including Finance, Legal, Human Resources and Facilities. There is much to be done as we build a campus filled with the laboratories that will be home to EIT researchers.”
