The Ellison Institute of Technology announces plans for a new expanded Oxford campus

The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) is today announcing an exciting new phase in its development by revealing the plans for its Littlemore campus in Oxford.

At its conception in 2023, EIT was originally envisioned as a science complex of laboratories and office space covering 300,000 sq ft. However, due to its growing ambitions and the overwhelming support received from the Oxford science ecosystem, EIT is now looking at laboratory and office spaces covering an area of 2 million sq ft.

Part of this new footprint will consist of land on the western part of The Oxford Science Park which has recently been purchased by EIT.  Together, The Oxford Science Park and EIT intend to embark on a partnership to support discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship in Oxford.

This exciting expansion means EIT will be able to augment its work on four humane endeavours – health, medical science and generative biology; food security and sustainable agriculture; climate change and managing atmospheric CO2 and AI and robotics.

The campus – designed by world-renowned architects Foster + Partners, led by Lord Norman Foster - will be home to the latest evolution of autonomous laboratories, purpose-built laboratories including a plant sciences building and collaborative spaces for research and education. A key part of the EIT approach will be exchanging interdisciplinary ideas particularly using cross-cutting AI and data capabilities.

The new campus will eventually be a welcoming workspace for a community of up to 7,000 employees complete with leisure and catering facilities. This will bring a wide range of jobs and opportunities to the local neighbourhood of Littlemore as it becomes a crucial part of the new Oxford-Cambridge Corridor.

Speaking about the new expansion, EIT Oxford and Global President Professor Santa Ono said:

“This investment is a sign of EIT’s commitment to Littlemore as a home for ambitious ground-breaking science. As EIT’s new President, I’m looking forward to watching our campus develop and grow over the next few years. We want to build a community of talented scientists who will work in an environment specially designed to encourage great ideas to flourish.”

Lisa Flashner, Chief Operating Officer of EIT, said:

“In addition to delivering a substantial contribution to the local economy, we aim for this expanded campus to set a new benchmark in innovation and design. In close collaboration with Foster + Partners, we have carefully refined every element to create a state-of-the-art campus that promotes collaboration across research disciplines and provides our employees with exceptional spaces that enhance their daily experience.”

Yong Shen, Director of TOSP said:

“We are delighted to partner with EIT on their ambitious expansion plans, which will no doubt accelerate the growth of world-class science and innovation in Oxford. Our current and future occupiers will benefit from close proximity to the expanded EIT campus, creating new opportunities for collaboration and engagement with groundbreaking research.”
