Life at EIT

Working with EIT

EIT Oxford is rapidly scaling up to be a site of cutting-edge research and innovation, EIT-supported students have access to world-class facilities, scientific and technological leaders of global renown, and will join a supportive community of peers who explore, learn and innovate together.

Undergraduate

For undergraduate Ellison Scholars, engagement with EIT’s projects is centred around internships. During these periods, Scholars contribute to EIT’s science and innovation projects, that are aligned with their interests and academic backgrounds.

During the internships, students are embedded within EIT’s teams, contributing to work that has purpose and momentum. They gain the ability to understand and contribute to new fields, whilst gaining skills and developing clarity about their own future trajectories.

Graduate

Graduate students working on EIT’s projects collaborate with researchers and technologists at EIT throughout the year. Their projects are thoughtfully structured by both University and EIT co-supervisors so that they can build out high-quality doctoral research as they contribute to research and innovation projects at the Institute.

EIT-funded doctoral research may take place at EIT, departments of the University of Oxford or across the sites, throughout the course of the degree.

events

Building a holistic student experience

Throughout the year, students participate in a rich calendar of events to deepen learning, broaden networks, and create moments of shared inspiration. Each experience is designed to help students feel rooted in their new environment, develop as leaders and innovators, forming meaningful connections with each other and the wider EIT network.

Leadership & Innovation Programming

Workshops and seminars that help students develop the mindsets and capabilities needed to lead in fast-moving global fields - ranging from creative problem-solving to communicating ideas with impact.

Expert Talks & Engagement

Exclusive sessions with leaders in science and technology from EIT and beyond. Students gain direct access to thinkers who are shaping their fields, with opportunities for open conversation and transparent discussion.

Community & Social Events

From informal dinners to end-of-year celebrations, students gather regularly to unwind, connect and build friendships.

Exploring Oxford & Beyond

The programme encourages students to experience the cultural richness of the UK. Past activities have included trips to Blenheim Palace, trips to historical cities such as London and Bath, as well as local experiences around Oxford.

student Community

A defining part of the student experience at EIT is the connections students build with one another. Coming from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and perspectives, they are united by curiosity and a shared drive to make a meaningful impact in the world.

Whether through collaborative workshops,  trips or shared meals, these moments together foster a genuine sense of community - often described as one of the most transformative aspects of the programme.
