Operations Manager

Lien Davidson

Lien is the Strategy and Operations Manager at GBI, where she works closely with the COO to shape and deliver GBI’s strategic direction and operational framework, enabling the institute to scale effectively and enable world-class research in engineering biology. She is passionate about contributing to GBI’s mission to build a world-leading institute for engineering biology and is excited to help unlock the potential of generative biology to address society’s greatest challenges.

Prior to joining EIT, Lien worked as a medical doctor in the NHS and later as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, advising pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and global health organisations on strategy, innovation, and transformation.  She holds a PhD in Reproductive Medicine and a graduate-entry Medical Degree both from the University of Oxford, and maintains an active GMC licence.

Work withLien Davidson

The GBI team aims to unlock the blueprint of life, enabling the rapid and scalable synthesis of entire genomes with newfound precision. Success would enable the identification and potential creation of DNA sequences that could generate biological systems designed to perform specific functions. These new DNA construction techniques could have a wide range of commercial applications, including designing more efficient crops with higher yields or finding personalised cell therapies and vaccines. Specially engineered cell processes could also support new biodegradable materials to help tackle the problems of climate change.
