Anneke is the Director of Research Infrastructure for the Generative Biology Institute at EIT, where she leads on the rapidly evolving technical infrastructure, including lab spaces, technical teams and technology hubs. She is currently very much focused on setting up the new GBI spaces and ensuring that research teams have all the capabilities required to start delivering.
Prior to this role, Anneke was Director of Research Infrastructure for the University of Bath, where she led the research infrastructure strategy and delivery, covering all aspects from Research Facilities to equipment sharing, and supporting researchers with funding proposals for capital equipment projects. At Bath she also championed Research Technical Professionals both internally and externally, and represented the University in research infrastructure discussions with external partners and stakeholders.
In addition, Anneke has held numerous advisory roles for the government research funder (UKRI), advising on all aspects of research infrastructure across a range of discipline areas and scales. This includes membership of strategic advisory teams for MRC and EPSRC, and chairing funding panels for MRC, EPSRC, NERC and BBSRC. Most erectly she chaired the EPSRC Research Infrastructure Strategic Advisory Team, and is current Chair of the UKRI Facilities Strategic Advisory Group which provides strategic advice to national science facilities at the Harwell campus, including the Central Laser Facility, Diamond Light Source, ISIS Neutron & Muon Source and the Research Complex.
Prior to these strategic roles, Anneke’s was an environmental mass spectrometrist, initially working at an instrument manufacturer before transitioning to academic research facility operations and management. Anneke is a Professor of Research Infrastructure, with a PhD in Environmental Engineering and BSc in Marine Science with French, both from the University of Southampton.
