Paul Shearing is Engineering Lead for the Lithium Air Batteries program. He is Statutory Professor of Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Department of Engineering Science and Director of the ZERO Institute, for zero carbon energy research at Oxford University.
He joined the University of Oxford in 2023, and as the inaugural Director of The ZERO Institute, he will help to shape ZERO’s ethos, strategy, networks, research and teaching programmes.
He holds the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Battery Technologies and has published over 500 papers in the academic literature.
He is a chartered chemical engineer and recipient of The Royal Academy of Engineering’s Silver Medal, recognising outstanding personal contributions to UK engineering resulting in market exploitation. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2024.
