Alex Cheetham is the Director of Research Operations for the Economics Program at EIT. Alex helps to drive forward the work of the Economics team, whose aim is to unlock the potential of AI and robotics to improve lives and expand prosperity.

Alex brings a range of experience from across different sectors. Prior to EIT, she spent 13 years at Oxford University in roles including Chief of Staff to two Pro-Vice-Chancellors and to the Chief Development Officer, and latterly as the Associate Director leading strategic initiatives for the Saïd Business School. She spent her early career as a government economist at HM Treasury before moving to the corporate sector in a range of roles for BT plc and for a smaller telco challenger company in New Zealand. Alex also spent 18 months in New Zealand leading a major government inquiry at the competition authority, the Commerce Commission.

Alex holds an MA in economics from Cambridge University and an MSc in economics from Birkbeck College, University of London. She sits as an advisor on a board at her former College.

Outside work, Alex enjoys travelling, spending time with her friends, family (most of the time), and a moderate amount of gardening and exercise.
