Pathogen Program
Senior Scientist

Ian Andrews

Ian Andrews is a Senior Scientist in the Applied Sequencing Group for the Pathogen Program at EIT. In this role, his work focuses on the development and optimisation of sample-to-result metagenomic diagnostic workflows for infectious disease.

A bioengineer by training, Ian has spent his career thus far working at the interfaces of microbiology, molecular biology, engineering, and machine learning to tackle the challenge of antimicrobial resistance through both diagnostic development and therapeutic discovery. Prior to joining EIT, Ian was a Research Scientist at Day Zero Diagnostics working on the development of sequencing-based diagnostic assays for antimicrobial resistance and earned his PhD in Biological Engineering at MIT studying antibiotic compound discovery and antibiotic efficacy.

Outside of the lab, Ian enjoys exploring the outdoors through running, hiking, and travelling with friends and family.
