Dan Ward

Dan Ward is a Senior Bioinformatician working in the Pathogen Program at EIT Oxford. He collaborates across the Pathogen program to support routine bioinformatic analysis and build bespoke analysis tooling, facilitating research and development of clinical diagnostic platforms.

He trained at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Immunology of Infectious Disease for his MSc, and a PhD developing assays for outbreak surveillance, later specialising in Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) sequencing for infectious diseases, working globally in the field applying research and delivering training programmes

More recently, he was the Lead Bioinformatician for the NHS Respiratory Metagenomics Programme at GSTT (Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust). His portfolio covered the full analysis stack, R&D, deployment and training, also enabling interfaces between the NHS and government agencies to facilitate public health and biosecurity programmes.

In his spare time, Dan loves a long bike ride. He skateboards despite being in his 30s. And his go-to karaoke is “Anything by Hall and Oates”.
