Julian Ashwin is a Research Fellow at the Economics Department for EIT. In his role, he contributes to fundamental research on the measurement and valuation of health as well the economic consequences of longevity and ageing. Alongside his role at EIT, Julian is an Assistant Professor of Macroeconomics at Maastricht University and an Academic Consultant at the World Bank.
Julian has a decade of experience as an economics researcher and educator. Prior to his current roles, Julian was a Postdoctoral Researcher at London Business School and a New Map of Life Fellow at the Stanford Center on Longevity, as well as holding teaching positions at the University of Oxford and University College London. In addition to his experience in academia, Julian has worked in both policy environments (at the European Central Bank and UK Cabinet Office) as well as the private sector (at Goldman Sachs and Oxera Consulting).
Julian is very much a product of the University of Oxford, having completed a DPhil in Economics in 2022 (Nuffield College), an MPhil in Economics in 2017 (Nuffield College) and a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 2015 (Hertford College).
Outside of work, Julian enjoys playing football, listening to cricket and creative vegetarian cooking.
