George Busby

Business Partnerships Manager

Dr George Busby is a Business Partnerships Manager for Pathogena at EIT. George is responsible for developing and nurturing relationships with external partners to support EIT’s uniquely ambitious pathogen program to build a truly global ‘always-on’ infectious disease detection and monitoring system.

George has worked in genomics research and innovation for almost 20 years, including a range of statistical genetics and project management roles at Oxford University. In 2019 George designed and led a project that drove across Africa carrying all the lab equipment necessary to sequence DNA from malaria parasites and mosquitoes in the back of a Land Rover. Prior to joining EIT, George was Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder at Allelica, a bioinformatics startup.

George has a DPhil from Oxford University, a Masters from Imperial College and a BSc in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh. He has contributed to over 30 academic publications in a range of disciplines, from conservation genetics to statistical genomics and health economics, and has a special interest in understanding the effect of genetic ancestry on global population structure and disease risk prediction.

Outside of work, George enjoys early morning runs around the streets of East Oxford, singing in a local choral society, and spending time with his wife and four young children.
