Dr. Catherine Anscombe is a molecular scientist with extensive experience in pathogen diagnostics, genome sequencing, and bioinformatics. She has worked across a range of global public health settings, including Vietnam and Malawi, where she helped establish practical diagnostic and sequencing capabilities to support infectious-disease surveillance.
Her work includes developing CRISPR-based methods for tuberculosis sequencing, contributing to real-time genomic surveillance efforts, and creating workflows and pipelines that improve the accuracy and speed of microbial identification. Catherine has led collaborative research projects, supported capacity-building initiatives, and contributed to peer-reviewed publications in the field of infectious diseases.
At the EIT, Catherine supports efforts to improve human health by contributing scientific expertise to technologies and systems aimed at strengthening diagnostics and public-health resilience. She focuses on approaches that can be effectively implemented in diverse settings and improve access to reliable, high-quality infectious-disease testing.
