Pierre aims to discover and invent materials-based technologies at the intersection of chemistry and biology, while accelerating their path to market through more efficient funding and commercialisation pathways.

He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with honours degrees in Chemistry and Economics. In the Hartwig group, he developed chemistry that transforms polyethylene into hybridised sustainable, higher-value materials. In the Xu group he developed thermally stable enzyme-embedded plastics that fully depolymerise overnight, leading to an international patent application. As a result of this research, Pierre co-led a technology spinout effort, funded by the National Science Foundation I-Corps programme. Alongside his laboratory research, he focused his economics studies on questions relating to the economics of science and innovation.

Outside the lab, Pierre enjoys skiing, basketball, reading and exploring new places.
