Jason is passionate about condensed matter physics and aims to contribute towards a sustainable energy future by developing novel materials for next-generation batteries and photovoltaics. He is also interested in instabilities and pattern formation, especially in fluid dynamics.

Jason represented New Zealand in the 2025 International Young Physicists’ Tournament (IYPT) in Lund, Sweden, as the team captain. For the tournament he conducted research into open-ended physics problems relating to continuum mechanics and chaos theory. He has also independently published a paper on the solutions to the Schrödinger equation in a sawtooth potential.

Jason participated in numerous competitions, including the British Physics Olympiad and the New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition, where he received a silver medal.  He was also selected for a competitive New Zealand Chemistry Olympiad camp where he engaged in advanced study on chemical structure, reactivity, and mechanisms across organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, combining rigorous theoretical derivations with practical laboratory techniques..

Outside of academics, Jason enjoys drawing, tennis and tabletop games. He’s currently volunteering to support the 2026 IYPT team.
