Mental Health Impact of Widely Used Drugs

Project Examples:

GLP-1 receptor agonists in psychiatric and behavioural disorders

As part of the Ellison Institute’s mental health programme, we are interested in understanding the mental health impact of widely used drugs, such as GLP-1 receptor agonists. Emerging evidence suggests that GLP-1 agonists may have a role in depression, substance addiction, eating disorders, and reward circuitry. We are interested in exploring the mechanisms by which GLP-1 agonists influence mental health through animal models, clinical research of their impact in metabolic clinics and potentially moving through to clinical trials.
