Dr. Kim Duffy is the Head of Product for EIT Pathogena at EIT. In this role, Kim leads the product team in their mission to develop and execute innovative product strategies that address pathogen-related challenges. Her responsibilities include overseeing the entire product lifecycle, from conceptualisation to market introduction through multi-departmental collaboration, ensuring alignment with the institute's strategic goals and technological needs in pathogen research and response.
Kim joined the Ellison Institute after a significant tenure at Vicon. At Vicon, Kim led the Life Sciences product management team, focusing on products in healthcare, sports biomechanics, and injury research. Her journey into biomechanics was sparked by a career in football with Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC, where repeated knee injuries and subsequent rehabilitation fostered a deep interest in the field.
Kim holds a PhD from the University of Essex, where her research utilised Vicon motion capture systems to study the effects of ageing on gait and functional movement in older adults. To this date, Kim is a Research Fellow at the University of Essex exploring age and ageing effects on movement in the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences.
In her current role at the Ellison Institute, Kim's mission is to drive innovation and create impactful solutions that contribute to the understanding and mitigation of pathogen threats.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Kim enjoys spending time with her family, gaming, climbing mountains, playing sports, and mentoring women in science and technology.
