Ian Lowenhoff

Clinical Trials Programme Manager

Ian Lowenhoff is Clinical Trials Programme Manager at EIT. In his role, he is responsible for developing clinical trials strategies and building clinical trials delivery capabilities at EIT, including the implementation of a future Clinical Trials Unit.

Ian has over 7 years of clinical trial delivery experience including experience in early to late phase CTIMP trial delivery, trial design and set-up. Previously, Ian worked in Professor Peter Sasieni’s team as Trial Manager at Queen Mary University of London for the hugely successful NHS-Galleri trial where he led on GP PIC site recruitment, clinical referral pathway management and cancer alliance partnerships management.

Ian is a nurse by background. He completed his training at University of Surrey in Adult Nursing in 2016. He has held various clinical roles in the NHS over the years including roles in hyperacute stroke medicine, respiratory and haematology, palliative care, public health, primary care settings and the emergency department.

Ian is passionate about collaborating and sharing learnings within the clinical research and healthcare industry. Recently Ian co-authored a paper detailing innovative strategies used to enrol the trial population for the NHS-Galleri trial at pace and is leading on the publication of another manuscript paper detailing how people with a cancer signal detected using an MCED were referred to the NHS for the first time.

Ian volunteers for the Health Research Authority (HRA) as an expert member on the Newcastle N1 Research Ethics Committee (REC) which specialises in reviewing early phase trials, trials where adults may lack capacity, research databases and trials involving children.

In his spare time, Ian enjoys playing board games and cycling.
