Danilo Jimenez Rezende is the Head of AI Research at EIT. In this role, he leads a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing AI for scientific discovery, developing foundation models, and leveraging machine learning to tackle challenges in materials science, biology, and healthcare.
Before joining EIT, Danilo was a Director at Google DeepMind, where he spent over a decade at the forefront of AI research. He led multiple projects on AI for scientific applications, working on AI for nuclear physics, materials discovery, computer vision, and medicine. Danilo also spearheaded foundational research in generative models, variational inference, and AI agents, co-authoring over 110 papers and patents.
Danilo holds a Ph.D. in Computational and Cognitive Neuroscience from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, an MSc in Theoretical Physics from École Polytechnique (France), and a BSc in Physics from the same institution. His academic background spans AI, theoretical physics, and neuroscience, providing a strong foundation for his interdisciplinary research.
Beyond his research, Danilo is passionate about mentoring and fostering diverse AI talent. He has been actively involved in initiatives to support young researchers from underrepresented backgrounds. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading and coding.
