Matthew leads global talent identification for the Ellison Scholars programme – attracting top candidates interested in driving technological innovation while studying at the University of Oxford. As Outreach Manager he coordinates a network of Regional Talent Scouts all over the world, as well as engaging with organisations and competitions who could identify potential applicants.
After more than a decade of experience in communications and external affairs roles in central government, Matthew joined EIT in March 2024. His previous roles include Head of External Communication at GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre and Head of Digital Communication at the Ministry of Justice. He has also worked as a newspaper journalist and ghostwrote PizzaExpress founder Peter Boizot’s autobiography ‘Mr Pizza and All That Jazz’.
Matthew took his undergraduate studies at the University of Sheffield, where he graduated with a History and Politics BA. He subsequently completed his graduate studies at De Montfort University, where he achieved an MA in Journalism.
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys exploring Oxfordshire with his wife, children and dog. He also sits on the Rose Hill Youth Football Club committee, which serves as a sports and social hub for the community in south Oxford.
